A PLACE FOR ME TO FIGURE IT OUT.
"Burning Man, children, is about sex, drugs, music, and baby wipes." -Don Farwell
Mess is one thing. If you have your crap all over your home because you actively use it as a living space, then good for you. Letting the grime and filth accumulate, however, is nasty and you need to clean that shit up. If a million people raging in the desert-drunk, high, dehydrated, sweaty, covered in playa dust- can keep themselves and their camp clean, so can you.
ALL RISE is a series of performances and installations in Seattle with the purpose of supporting and challenging artists to experiment and collaborate within the city.
Over the duration of four days, Mia Gjerde and I did an artist residency involving a series of performances enacted by installing ourselves in the site, which allowed us to interact with the space as well as the people walking by in their daily routines. The main concept was to disrupt routine by creating a dynamic routine ourselves, thus, shedding light on how labor and resistance interact with force in a community.
FORCE: n. a physical power or strength possessed by a living being; n. strength or power exerted upon an object; physical coercion; violence.
LABOR: n. a productive activity; v. to exert one's power of mind or body; work; toil. A force in opposition to resistance.
RESISTANCE: n. the opposition powered by one thing to another; an indicator of two powers at odds with each other; a force in opposition to labor.
Day 1: I watered the flower beds and Mia slept in the middle of the plot.
Day 2: Mia and I watered the flower beds together.
Day 3: Mia watered and I slept in the middle of the plot.
Day 4. Mia and I slept in the middle of the plot and no watering was done.
